This very beautiful Pacific blue abalone pearl set with sterling silver. Comes with a fine quality silver plated chain.

The Paua Blue Pearls are cultured by carefully attaching seeds to the inside of the abalone shell, beneath the mantle, so that this deep blue pearl can develop. Once the seed is placed beneath the mantle, the paua begins to overlay this  with its brilliant mother of pearl, made up of layer upon layer of nacre and conchiolin  .

There are over one hundred different species of abalone throughout the world and the native to NZ species is called Paua. Paua  (Haliotis iris) are only found in the cool crisp, clear waters near to the New Zealand coastline and it is these creatures that posses the greatest dept of colour and iridescence of any abalone shell.
